with fanfiction it's important to have a good understanding of the official lore so you don't contradict it. Also make sure any official characters in your story do and act the way people know they would act. I would also stay clear of blending two universes (Star trek/bionicle) There aren't many people that like bionicle AND whatever universe you add.
